can someone explain the story so far ,ive never watched it .......briefly please?

where to start.....
a plane crashed, (oceanic 815) in this island, dividing the plane into 2.
we learned that the plane crashed because Desmond did not push the button, which are 4 8 15 16 23 and 42. These buttons were supposed to be pushed every 108 in the hatch in order to save the world.
There are "others" in this island, some of them native the the island. Ben, the group leader killed several people that were born in the island making ben the leader. He is the only one who could speak to Jacob, the man who has all the answers to the island.
Jack became the losties leader, he did surgery on Bens spine.
Women are unable to have children in the island, the women usually die. Claire was an experiment of the others as well.
in season 3 Jack tries to get them off the island. We later find that this was a huge mistake, they were not supposed to get of the island at that point in time.

Most complex Show ever. But sure I'll try.
A plane crashes on a deserted island (or so you think). 42 or so people survive. The show shows flashbacks of these characters' lives of the troubles & obstacles they've faced including their reasons for being on the flight. They learn from a mysterious likewise stranded French woman, who had been on the island for 16 years that there are people referred to as 'Others' on the island. At the end of season 1, the leaders of the castaways find a hatch leading into the ground. Also, people left on a raft to make an attempt at rescue. The 'Others' highjack the raft & steal the young black boy that was with his father. The raft ends up back on shore where they meet more Survivors from the 'tail' of the plane. There are many major things not related to this plot that happened in season1. Including: John, a man who was wheel-chair bound for years was able to walk on the island. Claire: a husband-less girl gave birth to a new-born baby, Aaron. A drug addict rocker, Charlie kicked his drug addiction. There is a budding romance between the camp's doctor leader Jack & escaped convict Kate. Also, there is a strange monster heard, but not seen in the woods.
That's season 1 for ya & that is very small fraction of what went on. I'd do more but I'm lazy. You should rent the DVDs as it's the best show on television.

Lost... Plane crash, survivors, Mysterious island... character development. Human nature, good vs. evil. Reflections of past life and current situations. 6 degrees of separation involving almost all.
In a nutshell, Gilligan's island x 10 brought to the 21 century with rescuing tendencies.
I love all the characters....the show has been very well written, the season finale was a shocker for me, but now that I think about it, it could have only been that way.. You need to get the DVD collection. You'll get better answers from someone else. But on a scale of 1 to 10 it's about a 9...-given what else has been on TV lately.

Oh ... briefly is not going to happen. I recommend renting or buying used copies of season 1 and season 2, and watching it all over a few nights.
