There aren't many 'open auditions' like what Harry Potter was, but every once in a while you'll see one.

You can check the links below for audition info. You have to pay to submit yourself on actorsaccess, but it's a good site. Backstage you have to pay to see all the info, but you can usually see enough to get the rest of the info on your own. Equity will give yo all the info, but some of the calls are for Equity actors only so don't go to any where they're taking advance appointments from Equity actors. Equity is theatre, but any experience is good!

Good luck!

There are always open auditions. It just depends on what sort of work you are looking for. Sites like actorsaccess.com and even craigslist.org are very helpful resources. But keep in mind- the more professional the site- the more professional the filmmakers involved often can (but not always) are. If you are just starting out, another good place to look for roles- Student films at schools like NYU, USC, UCLA. these universities often place bulletins on campus, in local small papers, and also online.

Yes, the US holds open calls for film, and sometimes TV. However, they aren't advertised on TV, you'd have to find out about them online, in a paper or by word of mouth.
