My husband and I are planning on going to this big water park on monday and i just started my period. We have been planning this for a while because it is out of town, but is it ok to still go and just wear a tampon? I have heard of doing that before, but is it safe?

It's perfectly safe.

If you don't already use them I recommend starting a few days your event--assuming your period doesn't start the same day you plan to be out in the water--just so you can get used to putting it in.

However, one thing I disagree with from a previous poster is that you should push it far in. That will actually lessen it's effectiveness because it could get caught under part of your uterus, which won't do damage to you in anyway but it can't very absorb if it's tucked under something and that is actually one of the main reasons tampon users experience leakage.

Put in a new one before going in the water and change it shortly after getting out and you will be fine.
