My front lawn is probably 80 - 90% weeds. I have a few patches of fescue and crabgrass. My plans are to wait untill end of summer /fall (Sept.-Oct.) aerorate, weed n feed, and spread seed. Am I headed in the right direction or am I clueless? I reside in middle Tennessee.

This is what I did..........I just kept mowing it and every once in awhile I would burn it off. Let it grow and then mow again. It snows where I live and when it snowed I went out and scattered grass seed. Now I have a beautiful 1 acre back yard lawn.

You most certainly are headed in the right direction. Good Luck to you!

You are headed in the right direction. If you start on the weed and feed now with aeration you will eliminate this years weed seeds adding to the collection you already have in the ground. The problem is the weed and feed could kills some of the grass seed as it is coming up. Read the label for time to wait until spreading the over seed. Another method would be to use a post emergence herbicide. This would control the weeds and allow you to over seed quicker.

You should use the weed and feed during the groweing season (wich is now) so that your grass will have a chance to choke out the weeds. Mow first at as low of a setting as you can. Use the weed and feed generously. Then water so that it gets into the soil. Keep it mowed. The grass benefeits from being mowed the weeds do not. the thicker the grass becomes the less light and water the weeds get so they get choked out. 2 months after the first weed and feed do it again. Make sure that you use the proper weed and feed for your type of grass or it will kill it. I have brought many yards back to what they were ment to be.

Make sure you are growing a grass good for your area. You can find this information at your county extension service. Make sure that you aren't cutting your grass too short - set your mower at a minimum of three inches. Your grass needs food in the form of fertilizer - I agree with the Scotts program but you will need to give it a couple of seasons for good results. A thick and healthy lawn will eventually choke out many weeds.

OK, we are in GA and what we did just bought the weed and feed in the spraybottle that you attach to your hose, just be sure that it is not too hot when you spray it.We thought we would have to reseed not so, when the weeds had died it was 90% clover, we dicovered that there was a lot of grass under it. So we just raked the dead stuff off and had the most beautyful grass in the neighborhood. You might have to repeat it once but that definetly worked great.Best of luck!

No need to wait till fall when you can use a weed killer now while the weeds are growing kill them off and reseed. You can get hay to cover the seed and keep it watered to start it off. Fall is a good time to when the fall rains come but either way covering the seed is a good idea to keep the birds from eating it.

New sod & irrigation my friend, scoop it out, irrigate & re-sod it. Totally worth it, I do this for a living. Put it on a timer, and enjoy your new yard. If you got the cash, thats the way.
