It depends on what you're looking for in an agency. The benefit to being with the afore mentioned CAA or WM is that some projects are packaged in house meaning that the writer is with them and so is the director and they've decided to get all the actors in house as well meaning the talent pool from which they pick just got a heck of a lot smaller.

However, the smaller agencies have a big upside too. Less clients, less in house competition. Even though your agent should not have another actor like you in his/her line up... they're more likely to have a more high profile 'name actor' who commands more of their time and attention leaving a lot less of it for you. An agent at a smaller agency will spend a lot more time networking for you specifically whether or not you've booked a job in a few months. An agent at a big agency will be more likely to drop you as a client.

I think you should weigh the pros and cons of that and if you have a choice of agents meet with them and then decide. If you have friends with agents, use those connections to get the interview. That's the only way a big agent will see you since they don't accept unsolicited headshots and reels.

Good luck!
