The metric system is based on a base 10 system, so conversions within the system (ie. from meters to kilometers) are very easy. Also, most of the world uses the metric system. If the metric system were to be commonly used in the USA and other countries that don't use the metric system, it would unify the world in terms of units, which would help avoid miscommunication and facilitate communication.

USA doesn't use the metric system due to being used to using the customary system, however, I use the metric system often for work. Actually, to me it's kind of like learning a language, and I feel the metric system is easier and should be taught to our children in the usa beginning at an early age-no harm in learning both ... :)

That satellite missions to Mars don't fail and get lost because of confusion between metric and english units to correct the trajectory (as it happened). Also, there is confusion between different kinds of english measures such as the gallon.
Within the metric system all the physical magnitudes are coherent (size, temperature, pressure, force, weight, etc.) and you deal only with powers of 10.
0°C is the temperature of water freezing , 100°C is the temperature of boiling water at sea level. 100 divisions between the two. Much easier to check and remember than Farenheits.
The volume a cube of 10x10x10cm is 1000 cm² or 1 liter.
The area of a square of 10x10cm is 100 cm².
Isn't it easy?
No need to deal (divide, multiply) with figures such as 12, 8, 16, 32, 4,5 etc.

1) Its based on increments of 10 so converting to other metric units is easier.

2) Its worldwide (except for the freakin' US) so something you measure in metric here will make sense to someone in Germany or Japan.

3) Its based on the measurements of the Earth so its not arbitrary like the foot or the mile.

In short, metric is awesome.

1.
The metric system is easier to learn than the American system.
If it's easier to learn, more people could learn it.
That is better for everyone.

2.
The metric system is easier to use than the American system.
If it's easier to use, then computations are quicker.
If it's quicker, it saves time and therefor money.

How many yards in a mile?

2. The numbers in a car speedometer are higher in KPH ... that's totally wicked.
