I paid one of my bills and the check's signature is torn off, I'm really worried about fraud or a possible scam on my accounts.

What should I do or who should I call?

Speak to a bank officer and follow their advice. Keep close tabs on your bank account and balance. If any unauthorized transaction takes place notify the bank immediately.

Was the check cashed? or returned uncashed? Who returned the check? Was the bill paid (maybe they never put it in your account)?

Someone is making a counterfeit as we speak so close that account and open a new one. Call the bank now and make sure the account get frozen an no check get cashed until you get there in person to deal with it.

Chek for identity theft too.

Was it cashed? If so then you might not be getting a true copy of the check. Most banks don't provide the actual check back now, and in the US most merchants convert a paper check to an electronic one, or if they don't most banks do it now. This was changed after 9/11 when the "actual" check couldn't be flown to the bank it was written on. They changed the law to make electronic ones legal.

Notify the bank.

It could have been torn off by a processing machine.

Without everything else, like account # and pin #'s you should be OK, but if they have an on-line sevice to tour account, I would use it often to see what is clearing, and not waiting a month to get a balance! I don't even get checks returned with my statement!

I would call your bank and speak with them about it. They will know what, if any steps should be taken.
