We live in a rural area, and our well water started smelling like boild eggs or sulfur. Is that normal and how do I treat it?

It is probably sulfer.....Let me tell you about this.
I lived in Alameda California the owner of the apartment had her own well for the water source. The city wanted her to change over to city water and everytime they tested her water it was more pure than the city water.
If you feel uncomfortable then have it tested. If you can get past the smell you'll be fine.
I've often wondered if that is the reason I've only had the flu about 6 times since 1953?
I really don't think you can change the smell , you might check to see if a line filter would help.

Get your water tested. I don't think the sulfur will hurt you, but you do want to check to see what else is in there. . . drink and cook with bottled for a while. . .
I live rural too, and when the pump was replaced, the company tossed a bottle of bleach down the well and we ran the water for 4 hours to flush the well.
Check with a well drilling company for sanitary standards.

I agree it is probably sulfer. Do a test though. Is it your cold and hot water, or just your hot water? If it is just your hot water it may be that the anode rod in the hot water heater has started to decay, probably in part to your hard well water. We had the same problem. You can flush your tank with Hydrogen Peroxide, to help get rid of the smell. If it is your hot water only, I suggest you start over. Get a water softener, a new hot water tank (or replace the anode rod) and you should be fine. That's the only thing that worked for us.

All you need is some water softener in your water reservoir. It will clear the smell right up.
( Assuming that is the problem.)
The good news is, even if you shower in it.. when you dry YOU wont smell like eggs.

It is sulfur. Drink bottled water. The sulfur is actually not bad for you.

what you are smelling is hydrogen sulfied, or the off gasing of the reaction of sulfer and hydrocloric acid, a water softner may help but contact a water specialist.

No, it kind of actually smells like wet bricks. I know because I had a well on my lawn. The well, you smelled might have toxic gases or something, or might be polluted.

No, I would contact your water department and switch to bottled for a few days until it is resolved.

No, we wish it didn't. Your well has tapped into a sulpher pocket and there isn't anything that can be done about it. Sorry.
