Obama is complaining that "right wing" evangelists have hijacked their religion.
I guess he would be an expert on that subject. After all, his "former" religion, Islam, has been hijacked by extremists who blow up and kill innocent civilians and has the sympathy and support of most of its congregation in doing so.
His "current" religion, whatever that is, has been hijacked by black racists who have replaced God with Farrakhan, and replaced the word "amen" with "black power."

G - I know exactly what the hypocrite means.
And he is a HYPOCRITE for singling out Christianity and totally ignoring Islam, and his "black advancement" church.

The fact that G has 4 thumbs up shows how BIASED people are. Whether you agree with me or not, that's a bad answer. A HYPOCRITE criticizes other preachers when their own preacher doesn't even preach about God!! He preaches about black people this, black people that. LOOK AT YOUR OWN PASTOR, OBAMA THE HYPOCRITE.

Let us look at the speech in its proper context to understand what Obama is trying to do...
"Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us."
"At every opportunity, they've told evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion and gay marriage, school prayer and intelligent design," according to an advance copy of his speech.
Ok-good start. He is trying to get BEYOND the issues that Americans will all NEVER agree on. To me this makes sense...a new form of government that will put the focus on things we CAN change for the better: education, healthcare, social security...
Second, he is trying to show that all Democrats are not atheists. I am a Dem. AND a Christian. My mother raised me by listening to Focus on the Family; if anyone is trying to separate Americans and show that we have "bad" people out there, Dr. Dobson and his brigade are guilty of that crime. I thought Christians were to be examples for the world, not people who berate others!
"There was even a time when the Christian Coalition determined that its number one legislative priority was tax cuts for the rich," Obama said. "I don't know what Bible they're reading, but it doesn't jibe with my version."
If this fact is true, then the Christian Coalition is indeed hypocritical themselves.
Finally, please read Obama's books to understand that he did NOT practice Islam, but was merely educated in an Islamic country for a few years. Obama would most certainly say that Islam has been "hijcacked" too, in fact he warns in his books about any religion taken to the extreme.
Religion and govenment are separate for a reason, and he is merely trying to GET THINGS DONE!! Aren't you sick of argueing over abortion, gay rights, etc.? Americans will never agree on these issues, and Obama wants us to come together again and work together to make America better by focusing on NEW issues.

I also have the view, like you and unlike "g" above, that liberals are hypocrites when it comes to their denouncement of the influence that religion has on politics, when liberals cannonize the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I wish I could talk to Obama and his ilk in person and teach him a few things about why it is that religious issues have been "dividing" the country. Here's part of what I'd say: During the 1960s, the Democrats had control over all three branches of the Federal Government. And the U.S. Supreme Court seemed to have discovered the idea that the 1st amendment protects pornography. And that it prohibits teacher-led prayer and Bible-reading in school. The Court decided that "equal protection of the laws" means that state laws "discriminating" against illegitimate children (and their parents) are prohibited. Basically, the Court went waaaaaay over to the left and took away from Christian conservatives their ability to control the moral environment of their states. So the Christian conservatives (who used to be of either party) decided that they have to gravitate toward the party who hadn't taken away these political powers.
There have always been Christian conservatives who were successful at influencing their state governments to create laws that reflect traditional moral values. The Christians were probably Republicans in Utah, Idaho, Iowa, and the plains states, Democrats in the south, and either one in the Great Lakes. But they have -- since the 1960s -- unified behind the Republican party at the national level because the Republicans were not trying to use the federal judiciary to take away from the states their ability to "legislate morality."

The claim that Obama is or ever was a Muslim is an outright lie--and it proves his compalaint is true.
Right wing evanngilists utter such lies--from the pulbit--and still claim to be "Christian" They are not--they are imposters, bigots, and liars. And so are their followers. As you just proved.

I wonder if Hillary has the guts to put him on the ticket?
Obama's silent war of racism is a disgrace..playing a
national forum along those lines is not Presidential.
a White could never say a word about anyone's religion..even a liberal one ..on the record.

so... he's a hypocrite because of what other people did?
that would be like calling someone who isn't a racist a hypocrite if their ancestors owned slaves...
people really seem to struggle with "what is a hypocrite" on here...

I agree Obama's religion is suspect. But his politics are extremely left wing. For that reason, I oppose his candidacy for president.
