Alexander the Great conquered Egypt about 333 BC, and after that, his general Ptolemy occupied and ruled the country as king, pharoah. The Egyptians learned Greek. After the conquest and occupation by Julius Caesar, Octavius, and the Romans, the Greco-Romanization of Egypt was complete. It has changed to Arabic after Arab ( Islamic ) conquest.
I also wanna add some other examples of this type:
1) The "Azeri" language is now known as a Turkic language, while it has been proved that before migration of Turks to Anatolia and Caucasus the Azeri language was spoken in the area, which was actually a branch of Indo-Iranian languages. (Just like Kurdish, Pahlavi etc. )
2) It has also happened to Persian in the first centuries that Arabs were leading Persia at that time Arabic was the official language of the country, but Persian was again born and brought in use.
I think that Arabs have done much harm to human civilizations.

The conquerors (in this case Arabs) imposed their own language in Egypt. It's the same reason Americans don't speak Iroquois and Mexicans don't speak the Aztec language.

It is a dead language. It was replaced when Arab Muslims took over the area and then Arabic became more widely spoken and gradually the Egytian language was lesser and lesser until no one spoke it. It is like Latin and ancient Greek.
