I would tell your gf to see her doctor before taken in pills of any form because sometime simple stuff like that can cause a reaction in the child. If you want a normal health baby check everything out with the doctor first no matter what it is... I believe this baby is your first one or you would know this already. Each woman and pregnancy is different but I would be caution on the side of the child.

My doctor gave me a list of things that were okay to take. Sudafed, Actifed, Dimetap, Tavist D, Afrin Nasal spray, Benadryl, and Tylonal Sinus were all on the okay list. I have bad allergies too, but find that benadryl makes me way way too sleepy (and I even break them in half!) Hope she has better luck than me!

You should definitely call her OBGYN to see if it is ok. I think Benadryl is safe but it does pass to the baby so if it makes her sleepy expect it will make the baby sleepy as well. I used to have bad allergies but I started taking this medicine called Flonase (it is a nasal spray you take once a day) during allergy season and now I never even get them. It is prescription so you will have to ask her doctor but I was allowed to take it during pregnancy.

Consult the doctor first, but I was told that benadryl was safe for me while I was pregnant. My allergies are awful. Stay away from anything that says decongestant on it though. I know that it bad. Also my doctor recommended Sudfed. The pharmicist should be able to help you find something that will suit her.

It's considered Pregnancy Category "B" for medications.
Here is a table concerning pregnancy categories:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pregnancy_category
The formulary that my hospital system uses has this to say about Benedryl (Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride):
"Teratogenic effects were not observed in animal studies. Diphenhydramine crosses the human placenta. One retrospective study showed an increased risk of cleft palate formation following maternal use of diphenhydramine during the 1st trimester of pregnancy; however, later studies have not confirmed this finding. Signs of toxicity and symptoms of withdrawal have been reported in infants following high doses or chronic maternal use close to term. Diphenhydramine has been evaluated for the treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum. It is generally not considered the antihistamine of choice for treating allergic rhinitis or nausea and vomiting during pregnancy."
Ask a pharmacist or her OB-GYN (best bet).
