If you mean you get a green screen with media player then you need to update your player.
I have had this problem several times over the years and found that windows updates usually fix the problem.
It could be that the vid files you want to watch were created on a later version of media player.

It sounds, to me, like you need to download some codecs. No big thing. These are free. I use K-Lite codec pack, and seem to experience no problem with playing video.

Take a look at the following site. (I would suggest one of the codec packs. Scroll down and view what's available on the left hand side of the screen.)
