today i worked a 12 hour shift in my local supermarket, it is a very large store and at least a dozen or more people came in acting a bit suspicious with four year olds looking like maddie. i live in ireland, so i can imagine why the police are slow to follow up some leads, some of the kids were having tantrums, screaming and refusing to go with their daddys or mammys, so what i would like to know, is how do the police know which leads to take seriously , and what ones do they disregard

Good question,I can`t tell you the answer, but some people who think they are acting in the best interests could be wasting police time.
I read a question yesterday who said they would grab the child and run to the local police station, then added that they thought people would understand if they had got it wrong...This kind of manic actions are at the very least almost psychopathically deranged. They wouldn`t get 10 yards before a severe kicking was meted out.
Some people are becoming irrational about it.and need to get a firm hold back with reality

I understand what you are saying but the police would surely be obliged to follow up every lead - however trivial!
I think people should try and engage the people with her in conversation - just say excuse me and ask the way to somewhere or something - like the Post Office or a pub/hotel near by - or the beach - and then take a good look at her eye!
And if it is her then follow at a safe distance and phone police on a mobile and just keep following until they arrive!
Or if they feel brave and it is her then confront them - hopefully they will do a disappearing act fast minus the child!
Malta is not that far away across the sea - and so many sightings seems strange - but in my heart I think she will be dead already - like most abducted children I am sorry to say!

I think you should ask your local Garda.
I have tried to be diligent in looking out for Madeleine, but a 58 year old male looking at young girls is regarded as 'perving'.
I have been given the evil eye on many occasions and indeed challenged on one.
To get close enough to check the pupils of the eye would encourage a good kicking.
So; I am sorry to say that I can no longer look out for Maddie.
The Press has made Parents over fear-full and hyper.
Hope fully my comment above about looking at young girls won't prompt the ''Pervert'' response from others, as I can assure you my requirements in Women are normal, and decidedly for grown up ones.

I would hope they would take all leads seriously,i think it must be hard to disreguard a tipp off or anonymous phonecall? could that be the one?? could you live with yourself if you was wrong? a vital lead missed, tough call i wouldn't like to be the person making those kind of decisions. I think they should follow up every lead possible even if it means being embarrasingly wrong, i wouldn't be offended if someone approached my little girl to be sure she wasn't missing Maddie, she is so distinctive with her eye a closer inspection would soon confirm any suspisions, any parent would understand i'm sure. This search has to be through if theres any chance of her coming home.
God Bless her wherever she is and praying for her to come home soon.x

I can't imagine how they do it; a very hard job I would imagine. But it has to be done.
Elizabeth Smart (In Utah) was brought home by someone recognizing her about a year after she was abducted. This person reported the sighting to the police and they acted upon it. And another girl who was abducted by a pedophile (she was taken by Joseph Smith, can't remember her name) was recognized by a waitress in Denny's and returned home.

i know what your saying my youngest actually has a look of madeleine and so do several of her cousins and friends
i dont understand how people are saying they see her and are sure enough it was her to go to the police but not to call out to her speak to her follow the people she is supposedly with or just go right ahead scoop her up and look for that eye she is famous for the fact is madeleine is 4 and is relying on an adult to help her right now are these people failing her or do they just want to see her its strange that this person is supposedly still parading madeleine around despite all the so called 'sightings' wouldnt it be wise for them to go undeground
one side of my brain wants to believe its her and she will be found soon enough but the other more logical side thinks all of the above
wherever she is i hope she is safe

if maddie is alive, and i sincerely hope she is, then whoever has got her will keep her away from the public eye for years,so all these sightings are just someone seeing a blonde child. i know for sure that if i had stolen a little blonde girl, i wouldnt take her to tesco next friday.so the police are right in saying these leads are unlikely to be real .

It is a painstakingly difficult job! I would not want to be the one responsible for following all the leads....
I hope that they do ...... as I hear follow up on all leads. I just pray that they can find her soon!

Exactly! I almost thought I saw her on the bus the other day, but I guess It's because every1's 'looking' for her, our minds are playing tricks now. It's a shame to admit, but I don't think she will be found alive, It's too late already.

it must be a total nightmare for them. they would have to take each and every report seriously. if there was the slightest chance she was actually spotted by a member of the public and the police didn't follow it up, there would be hell to pay.
