interleague does help in the standing and does count for towards the post season push

Of course it does. Look up standings and it will list total wins and losses. Then it gives you the team percentage for wins. The higher the percentage, the higher the team is in the standings. Most standings also list home/away win/losses and win/losses for each division like central, east, etc.
