Tomorrow will be the Gold Cup final in CHICAGO, IL, which last I checked is in the USA. But you just know that 90% of the crowd will be pro-Mexico. If they love Mexico so much, they can always go back. I don't understand why you choose to risk your life to leave a country, but still root for them instead of your home country.

I don't care where you came from. The fact is you live here, work here, earn your bread here. Obviously, you must feel that life is not that great in your old country, because you ARE here. I was born in Europe, Greece. But if the USA plays Greece, I'm pulling fot my team, the USA! Why not support your chosen country over the one you left. That to me is hypocritical.

EON, your answer is baffling, especially where you say, 'This false sense of superiority echoes your false sense of superiority". HUH??? I'm only a measly LEVEL 1, so I can't rate yo, but THUMBS DOWN on your answer.

Guess what Lorraine. That "assinine" staement is the answer that makes most sense so far.

Prince, I'm not ripping anybody. All I'm saying isthat they left Mexico for a reason, just like Europeans left Europe for a reason. I'm not limiting this to Mexicans.,. It happens with any national team that comes here. This is the latest example. How would they feel if they played in Mexico City and the majority of the crowd was pro-U.S.?

2007-06-23 12:12:07 · update #4

In answer to Lorraine's question, I do like soccer. I said it's the answer that makes most sense. Most Americans don't care about soccer to make it a major sport.

Raul, that's a great blanket statement you made! Congrats. As for Mexico's "great" soccer tradition, what's the furethest they've ever gvone in the world cup? I believe the quarterfinal round. The US did that too, and...didn't we beat Mexico to get there?

It's cuz Americans don't give a crap about soccer, we have real sports played by real athletes here.

I just got back from the USA U-21 game vs Chile, and there were thousands of Chilean fans. I love USA soccer, but if my little country of Macedonia came here to play, I would probably root for them.
People that say USA soccer has no support are wrong. More kids play soccer in the USA than any other sport, look it up. The only problem is, that number is skewed because so many girls play. The most athletic kids play football and basketball.

"Hispanics" which I take it to mean Latin Americans are not the only ones who like soccer here in the U.S. Besides, dude, that is a blanket statement. I suppose you are the Hispanic spokesperson of the U.S.?

There are many Europeans residing here and love soccer and many, many Americans. During the World Cup every single restaurant and bar had the games on. I am from Spain and I love soccer specially Barca. But I love Giants baseball too...this falls under the category.."can't we all get along" As far as Americans killing each other and fighting over sports, I beg to differ it happens a lot..in the worst places which is in little league and high school..the parents...shameful!

The 90% figure is total BS. The crowd will be more like 60% pro-Mexican and 40% pro-US although it will sound like 75% Mex, 25% US because they scream louder at a soccer game than we do.

And that's only against Mexico and couple other teams. All other countries we play here we have a pro-US crowd.

The 90% is right because most Hispanics, are mexicans and will cheer for Mexico. Second the Us doesn't have a great soccer tradition. Mexico does and no one likes the us because of people like Landon Donovan and cocky arrogant attitude. That's the attitude that most of the world connects withe US and americans abroad.

Dude I dont know why you are ripping on mexicans for liking soccer! get a life

Those people from mexico have been rooting for there team there whole lives. Although I dont condone what I am about to say... but a lot of mexicans come to the U.S. and never learn the culture here. If they did they wouldnt even watch soccer! A lot of banks and other types of businesses cator to hispanic people (for good reason. they spend a lot of the money the make) Its similar to other cultures when they first got here.. (im sure you have heard of little italys, greek towns, china towns... etc.) Its not after a generation or 2 that they completely adapt to the country.

You should have pride to have Greek blood running threw ur vains..just cuz u moved to america doesnt mean u should cheer for them...i was born in LA..so being mexican i cheer for the US and Mexico...but when they go head to head...i cheer Mexico all the way (even tho we lose)...in the world cup...when the US tied Italy...i cheered the US..and i felt proud to tie Italy....the problem with US soccer is that first of all...there isnt enough support and energy to let soccer grow...for example..in the US ...football, basketball, and baseball stadiums are all soccer stadiums around the world...second...MLS players (except for beckham and blanco) arent makin enough money as other athletes...i bet if u pay some guy 4 million dollars a yr to play soccer... other people would say "man i could make big money...here in the US"...i dont know how much these MLS players get...but its not nearly enough to say i want to make a career out of this...i think the NFL minimum salary is like 500/600K...whats the MLS????..theres not enough money invested in this to make it as big as it should b

Hmm Eon, I wonder if daveahoe has ever played a sport to make that kind of asinine statement?

It sounds like people are having a little Hispanic panic attack.

** Interesting how you would agree with daveahoe's comment, when he clearly disregarded soccer,
and Yet you're posting a question under the Soccer category?
So which is it, do you like soccer or are you an antagonist that belongs in the Immigration section?

It is not a joke. What is funny is how the U.S. does not invest a lot of money on soccer (the greatest sport in the world). Could it be that soccer was not invented in North America? Thus, most of the money goes to basketball, football, and baseball. This sense of false superiority echos your sense of false superiority. I am a basketball player and a soccer fan, and yes I do root for Mexico when the national team plays. But I do look at the reality, when Mexico's national team sucks I express my frustration just like I do the Lakers.

If 90% of the crowd will be pro-Mexico, what does that say about the U.S. crowd? I guess they don't care about soccer. Just listen to sport-talk radio.

As for rooting for Mexico, why not root for the team you, your parents, your grandparents and ancestors came from? Do you know where your ancestors came from? Do you root for that national team? In fact, I know quite a number of people born in these United States that root for teams like Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, England, Cameroon, and list goes on.

My dear friend, John L
Yes I do live here, I pay my taxes, I earn money and work hard, but if I want to root for Mexico I will. This doesn't mean that I never root for the U.S. I root for Mexico, but it doesn't mean I am in agreement with the policies of the government that treats Indigenous people like sh*t, and the same with the U.S.: when I root for the U.S. basketball team it does not mean that I am in agreement with its government for obvious reasons. Since I am Native American, I feel I can root for any national team spanning from Canada down to Chile because there are Native Americans still ALIVE in all these nations. We have a strong connection to these lands without borders.

False sense of Superiority: Just look at the "Manifest Destiny" doctrine, Jim Crow laws, slavery, sweatshops, etc.

The assinine statement that Lorrain is refering to is just that, assinine.

I think 90% is a bit excessive. Also, Chicago has a very high hispanic population. 26% of the population is hispanic and only 41% is white.
