The guy who said it is based on name is an idiot...
Penn State just came off of beating FSU in a bowl game and were ranked 23rd to start the next season and FSU started 11th.
There should be NO preseason polls!
It is not even schedules it is hype leading into the season....Look at Auburn last year starting off 4th after getting killed by Wisconsin in the bowl the previous year. These "so-called" prediction articles get read by the voters.
Plus, popular coaches/ players will help their team soar on the rankings. Like Meyer, Saban, Spurrier, and McFadden will help his team get ranked higher then they should.
Nobody likes boring but good teams like Wisconsin.
Unfortunately this country is made up of people riding the SEC bandwagon and not too many people can see through the BS.

I agree with you totally.the #7 team could play the #1 team and lose by 1 point then the #7 team drop to #15 or further it does not make sense.Rank the top 25 teams not their records. This year your top 3 teams were Auburn,LSU ,and,Florida but they were in the same conference.Instead of being ranked 1,2,and 3 they were 1,3,and 8

College football rankings are f***ed up and everyone knows that. But the majority of the time, the team that is the best tends to come out in the end, like Florida over Ohio St. last year, it all worked out in the end.

The whole polling system is crap.
Until there is a playoff system in place, we will never know who really is the best team.
The only way to tell is to prove it on the field just like every other division of football as well as every other sport on the collegiate level.
Could you imagine an NFL champion crowned based on a polling system?
The whole BCS thing is nothing but a bad joke.

It's more on name than anything else, which is why teams like Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State are almost always overrated.
