It is eerie to "see" Hitler. Also, I have read his secretary's book, "Until the Final Hour," I believe this to be a realistic reenactment of what happened. The filmmakers were good to choose the actor for Goebbels: He is like him.

But maybe you were asking something else. Do I approve of making a film about Hitler?

Excellent film. I believe it's as close as we're ever likely to get to the end of Hitler and Eva Braun. It's a very interesting look at the lunacy surrounding Hitler. History always paints Hitler as the most evil of men and yet, he killed no one by his own hand. He got millions of other normal folks to actually commit his acts of evil. And the people who blindly follow him in the bunker and depicted in this film are such perfect examples of this.

In 1985, while attending college in Germany, I had the opportunity to travel to West Berlin and then through Checkpoint Charlie and into East Berlin. At one point, you could look out into the no-man's land of the Berlin Wall and see the location of Hitler's Bunker. It was a very surreal experience to be that close to such a dark period in human history.

Certainly, Downfall has a similar effect on its viewers.

It seemed very realistic and was riveting.

There was one part of it that reminded me of the current situation in America. Hitler told Albert Speer to destroy the bridges, dams, and powerplants to deprive the allies of their use when they invaded. Speer knew this would harm Germans more than the invading allies, so he didn't do it.

That reminds me of all the whistleblowers who risk their lives to go public about the unconstitutional and even dangerous actions of the Bush administration.

i thought it was depressing and accurate. the actors they had portrayed the parts with great detail and physical resemblance. and since it was historical only needed the opening minutes to explain who's point of view it was told from. i thought it interesting that they had hitler's peculiar eating habits. i enjoyed watching it as it was in the style of other movies about the german perspective from ww2 like stalingrad and das boot
