I have an Alienware Sentia 223 notebook and if i turn it on and then start a program like AIM or the internet, after a few minutes the computer will get hot and then it shuts off. Also if it doesnt shut off the notebook becomes very hot like it sort of burns too touch the under side.

There is this P button right next to the power button and if i press that the computers performance drops to about 50%.

Anybody have any ideas to solve this problems.

Thank You

and if i do hit the P button it cuts the performance down to half or even less. If your playing a game and you have the P button on then it lags like crazy but if you dont have the P button on then i doesnt lag at all.

Alienware laptops are high end so you need a good fan or cooling system to cool them. Listen for your fan to see if it is working. If its not, get it fixed and dont use it till it is. Also make sure you are not blocking the vents when you set it on your lap or whatever. It has to able to blow the hot air out. Try it when it is not plugged in. It could be a faulty power supply. If it still does it than make sure the fan is working.

first of all your overheating is probably due to your fans no working properly. you have to either clean them or buy new ones and replace them. second, i have never heard of a p button that drops pc performance.
