Since my daughter doesn't seem to want to come out on her own I am scheduled to go to the hospital at 5pm Wednesday and they are going to use Cervidil on my cerivx and then at 6 in the morning start Pitocin. Looking up things online about Pitocin, I am getting nervous about being given the drug because of how painful it says it can make labor. So I was just wondering can cervidil ever get labor started without the pitocin? I know it's just supposed to soften the cervix but I didn't know if anyone had been given it and it opened the cervix enough to start active labor?

Labor is painful with or without pitocin. Pitocin just makes the contractions go in a regular pattern faster than normal.
Both my babies had to be induced [ they really liked it in there! ].
Cervidil softens the cervix, but anything can happen between now and wednesday.

When I was pregnant and was induced, they used the Cervidil on my cervix the night before just as they are going to do to you. The next morning they started the Pitocin drip. It did make my labor very painful. When they started the Pitocin, my contractions really started and were very consitent. The night before I asked my doctor if the Pitocin really made labor more intense and he said it was going to be intense no matter what. Ppffff!!! What a typical male answer! Everyone that I know of says that the Pitocin is horrible and I personally wish that I wouldn't have gotten the Pitocin. The Cervidil did put me into labor but it wasn't active labor. I stayed up all night after the Cervidil was on my cervix. I dilated from 2-3 in about 9 hours after the Cervidil. I had contractions all night and I was crampy. I really wanted a natural childbirth without pain meds or epidural but with the pitocin, that didn't happen. I made it till I was dilated 5cm and then I couldn't take it anymore...I had to have the epidural. It was my first and only pregnancy. My daughter is 16 months old.
