"what's good for America" has taken a back seat to machismo in the party...

"who cares what's right as long as I personally win" is their motto....

and you can only hurt so many people with that attitude, before you won't have many people left in your corner...

they all seem to think that everyone still cares if someone calls you a "girl"... playground politics can be effective at times... but it really hurts much more than helps in the long run...

I think you're witnessing the death gasp of the GOP. If current population trends continue, Republicans will be seriously outnumbered in the near future, and unable to win control of the Federal government. Bush's atavistic behavior is like a "smash-and-grab" crime, where as much money as possible has been transferred from the government and public to Republican campaign contributors, before they lose all political clout. Rank-and-file Republicans are getting a lot less for their vote, but are reacting by swinging further right, rather than back to the center. I've never heard such extreme rhetoric from so many people at the local level. It's kinda scary, when they go off on Commies and terrorists and you can see they've gotten their ideas from FOX or Falwell or some other non-factual source. Yeah, morals are changing, and some traditions are vanishing. Their concern for the future is somewhat understandable, even if their reaction isn't.

A rational discussion is the last thing the modern day Republicans want. The GOP wants to play off of scare tactics and other crap to get its agenda passed, (i.e. The Patriot Act). Just look at all the oversight going on now that the democrats are in control. Republicans now have to answer to whats been going on. They get upset and now you see all these ridiculous posts on yahoo answers denouncing liberals. All i got to say is that the Republicans and conservatism in general has never done anything, everytime a new program was passed, that was breaking ground was a liberal policy. Every advancement in society was a liberal policy. Everything that conservatives do nearly delay progress and just slows down human advancement.

There's plenty of that on the Democrat liberal side too.

You want an example of Liberal intolerance to a rationally asked question? Just check out a question I asked a while back, especially the last 6 answers, that I've linked below

Apparently all us Republicans are just a bunch of dumb hicks who only respond to hate filled conservative talk radio and Fox News.

See what happens when a question like this is asked? Immediately two people throw out accusations and in order to respond, I've now been placed into a position that forces me to defend myself first.

Ain't life great?

OLD conservative.. :) So much for debate.

Don't want to or need to handle any sort of moderation.
Because we don't just settle, or be satisfied with mediocrity
We work hard to succeed, win, excel, and prosper
Don't need group think, wealth sharing, watered down speech, or pity.
We call a spade a spade. Black and White, Night and Day
Everyone was born different, you wouldn't know that from the Democrats point of view
That's WHY.

It happens on both sides - someone takes a cheap shot at the other side's view and a pie throwing contest ensues.

We can't help it if there are extremists on the right just as you can't help it if there are extremists on the left. Report it and move on. They will learn.

These are RINOs (Repubs In Name Only). Their true calling is that of the neo-con. They tremble in irrational fear of everything due to the Bush admin and Fox News.
