Hi!
It's a great city with a great university and good sports and leisure facilities. Your choice of neighbourhood would depend on a number of things, such as if you have school age children; a job and where; like theatre, music, sport etc. Your budget would also be a factor.
I'm biased here, but the best parts of Manchester are Cheetham Hill in the North and Gorton to the East. Both are just a couple of miles from the city centre and lots of great outdoor places are short drives or walks away. While Gorton has 17 great schools, Cheetham Hill has some great eateries. Both areas have a great community spirit. Gorton has the newly restored Monastery linked to other local facilities that make it an up and coming cultural centre. Cheetham is close to Heaton Park, Gorton close to Debdale Park. Both have festivals and are on great bus routes and close to motorway links and airport.
Right now you could buy a good property in Gorton for a very reasonable price, with the value likely to rise as the regeneration process unfolds.
Watch out for the south side of the city. I've heard folk get out of the bath to wee who live there.
Hope this helps.
Good wishes.

i don't be responsive to why human beings say that mosside continues to be undesirable, through fact it rather is not. i'm able to stroll around there each and all of the time and that i think safer there than the place i individually stay that's in Moston. i've got lived in Moston for a year and that i'm getting verbally attacked each and all of the time, and been surely attacked some situations, my mum has been carjacked with the aid of the nook save, human beings consistently attempt and wreck in our automobiles, graffiti our partitions and the neighbours, etcetc. Harpurhey isn't too gorgeous the two, or Droylsden and Cheetham Hill, and Blackely. i'd avert relatively some components, for confident, in spite of if it rather is not all too undesirable.

I live in Sale. Good place to be - close to countryside but also close to Manchester City Centre. Has a Metrolink tram facility for easy transport. Good schools, shopping facilities especially with Trafford Centre. Great place to be and lots of rentals (upmarket too) if that's what you are looking for initially. South Manchester is where you need to be really.

Avoid Bolton! I moved there from London and felt safer walking round Soho at night!!
Bury and surrounding areas are ok. Metrolink goes into Manchester if you work in central Manchester.
I moved to Radcliffe, near Bury. Bit 'Dickensian' but feel safer!
Good luck!

Cheaper rents and less chance of being pillaged if you look at surrounding towns such as Bolton, Chorley and (god forbid) Wigan, lots of green stuff there and easy transport links into manch hub. If you got your heart set on Manch do a google search on: 'drug related crime manchester' you should find articles listing no go estates and areas. Let me know when you get here.
