I posted yesterday about having constant headaches and being dizzy, but today it took a turn for the worst. I was taking a shower, and out of nowhere I started feeling really sick. When I tried to move my head back a bit to finish washing my hair, I became really dizzy and everything in view went completely black. It stayed like this for about a minute, until I was able to get myself out of the shower and sit myself down. Has anyone ever had this happen to them while they were pregnant? I'm 17 weeks right now.

Oh one more thing, I can never deal with hot showers esp in the summer, so I had the water as cool as possible without being freezing.

Although I know you must have been very alarmed, it is actually not uncommon for women to feel dizzy and lightheaded and to sometimes faint or black out when pregnant.

My friend passed out several times during her last pregnancy. So did my aunt. Although uncomfortable and a little frightening it did not hurt them or the baby.

Fainting/blacking out happens because the woman's blood vessels naturally relax and dilate under the influence of the hormone progesterone, lowering her blood pressure.

Hot environments, like the shower, can cause blood to flow away from the head, increasing feelings of lightheadedness. Maybe you could switch to warm showers, or while in the shower you can bend over and put your head down, as close to your knees as possible, or even get down on your hands and knees for a minute, if you have room.

You should only be concerned if the fainting or blacking out occurs very regularly - this could signal a heart condition. Or if you are fainting after the 28th week, that could signal preeclampsia.

I had this problem too when I was around 17-20 weeks pregnant. I was at the grocery store with my mom and we were walking back to the car and all of a sudden I felt very weak and everything started to go black. Once I was able to sit down I felt better after a couple minutes. Lightheadedness is common in pregnancy but it's not common to actually pass out. The thing that kept me from feeling that way again was just eating something every hour or two. Even if I wasn't hungry I would snack on something and I didn't have anymore problems with it.

I've been having the same thing but I will get shaky also. I have gone to the doctor and hospital many many times and everything always checks out great with all the tests. It has become very frustrating to me. So I understand how you feel. My doctor told me it is just something I am going to have to deal with. But I would call just to make sure so you can least have peace of mind.
Good Luck!

Very low blood pressure can make you pass out. Call the doctor today and let them know what is going on.

sounds like when I had preeclampsia but I had that later in my pregnancy, I suggest you go in and be seen, the sooner the better.
