Basically, we have created a coterie of spoiled, self- indulgent, career politicians who answer to no one. Most of us don't vote, and many who do, vote the way their churches, unions, or special interest groups tell them to vote. Or they vote straight party lines without bothering to research the issues or the person. We have created a system whereby it is very difficult for someone who is not wealthy or connected to win. One almost has to be a Rep. or Dem to win an election. We have caused this to occur because we are a lazy self-indulgent people. Many belong to, what was called in the 1950s- the silent majority. As a child, I remember primitive commercials urging the people to "stand up and be counted." When a people voluntarily gives up its basic rights- like voting- this is what happens. Add an extremely biases television and print media who lionize some and demonize others to the complacency of this society and you get what we are cursed with now. He who has the most money, lies the most, and shouts the loudest wins. Politicians know if they promise the people what they want to hear, once in Washington they can do as they please and by the next election, the people will have forgotten. They best way to turn a country into what we are approaching today, is to manipulate the people into complacency, let the politicos forget they are there to represent us and think their job is to govern and take care of the unwashed masses. The one thing the founders forgot in our laws was a way to fire public servants who do not do what they are elected to do, as any boss would fire an employee who doesn't do his or her job! Sure, there is impeachment, malfeasance in office, etc., but how many understand it? Do we really expect the politicos to police themselves?

I think we have an entire group of hooligans on the hill who are in for a big surprise. IF the American public finally wakes up, and ousts most if not all of them. That is really the only way a new President will even stand a chance.

Let those who continue to vote against the will of the people see what happens when it's election time! I'd love to see new people in there who will also completely revise the Patriot Act so that it deals with terrorists and not with us, the citizens.

Much to do. Can you tell that I'm REALLY pissed at our government? LOL

As usual, you are wrong. In the US we have a representative republic. We elect legislators who are supposed to do what is best for the country. The legislators are not there to do our bidding. The trouble is, politicians say what they have to say to get elected then do what they have to do to stay in office.

Our only option is vote out one bad politician and maybe get a worse one to replace him.

They're primary responsibility to the American ppl is to protect and defend the constitution. Not do our social bidding. We should never put our trust in government. They need to fear us, not us fearing them.

I cannot agree with your premise.

I agree that goverment is of the people and for the people. But it is Constitutionally applied, through our separation of powers.
