I am 19 years old. And I dont know what to do with my life.
I am currently going to start my 2nd semester in a comunity college and I work part time; so Im not exactly wasting my time right now.

But I have a problem when it comes to picking a career and field of study. So many things are interesting to me and I dont like the idea of restricting myself to one thing, what some would call "specialization"; subsequently, I fear that i have what is called choice paralysis(a paradox of choice) due to too many choices and not enough information about the choices and the lack of decision making HELP!

IS THIS NORMAL? IT IS MAKING ME ANXIOUS?
IT SUCKS
I cant see where Im going to be in 10 years, as we students are so offten asked. I can barely see into next month.
maybe im just being irresponible or complaining too much.
Is there help out there? Is this normal?

WHAT TO DO WHAT TO DO?

Perfectly normal for someone your age.
Stop worrying. One day it will all fall into place.

Heck there are folks out there who never find themselves and then there are folks like me who switch careers late in life. Nursing to Sales

A recent study noted that most people switch careers a minimum of 3 times in their lifetime.

Get a job--any job and it will evolve from that. Teaching a bunch of kids can be an eye-opener! They taught me everything about group dynamics! From there I got an MA in my '40's in Guidance and Counseling and loved the troubled adolescents I worked with for the next 21 yrs.!! Your skills and interests EVOLVE! Are you a "people person" or an analytical person more fitted to high tech??? Determine that then go to a student counseling center for further exploration. STOP HYPERVENTILATING ABOUT IT! Most people have no idea, but it EVOLVES!! Good Luck!

I felt the same kind of pressure when I was in your year. Made decisions in high school actually which by 2nd year I knew were wrong but I stuck with them and went where it took me. Who knows where they will be in 10 years. Those who knew 10 years ago and got there are probably stressed out ulcer cases desperately trying to find happiness.

Work on making decisions today that you will be able to live with in 2, 10 and 60 years time.

You are very normal, you are doing all the right things, hardly anyone knows what they want in every step of their lives, sometimes things just seem right so we do it, we dont always make decisions about what we do in life.
Do not be anxious, do not worry, life will all fit into place, you will see, our journey in life is full of pot holes, it is also filled with cross roads totally confusing us in the way we should go, just have faith, also take any guidance given to you, as older people have already made mistakes in life, and they will try and prevent you from doing the same thing........ however, you will make your own mistakes in life, thats what it is all about, learn from those mistakes and you will grow as a person, you will gain knowledge from those mistakes...... if you dont make them you wont learn.... good luck with your life... none of us are perfect... what ever decisions you make.. even if you find they are wrong for you, then just change them... OK take care and good luck... you are very responsible and.. dont believe those people who look as if they have their lives all together, they dont... they just are good actors

I'm 19 and you know what .. I'm married I'm in a new country and I have absolutely NO idea what I want to do as a career yet. I dunno where I'll be in 10 years let alone what I'm doing.

I've had quite a few jobs ranging from food, animal care, to a domestic abuse shelter ... A stay at home nurse... And I haven't found it yet.

Very few people know exactly what they want to do with their lives either. Calm down you'll figure it out eventually. You're young have fun and enjoy your life.. What you want will come to you just be patient!

It's nothing to worry to much about. That's why students are required to take basics in college. Just to taste a little bit of everything and see what really interests you. Don't think of it as looking for a job but more as what you would like to learn more about.

Ask your friends and family for their suggestions. Listen to them. It sounds like you have many talents and skills. When you're suffering from "choice paralysis" and you're feeling anxious about what to do... let others you trust & respect make the choice for you, and give it your 110%

relax your a kid still. its not like wasting time or space your working and going to school. I was 44 years old when I figured out what I wanted to "be" when I grew up. I had worked all my adult life and already had a family when I went back to school. Its all good it will come to you in good time, just relax and enjoy the ride.

I really wish I'd have picked something to work towards in college. I wanted to do art but every one acted like that's really dumb. I should have went towards teaching and then worked it towards art.
