You may have damage in the Boot Sectors of your hard drive. Boot to your XP disk and go into the recovery console. It will ask you which installation of Windows you want. Pick which ever number is drive C. It is usually number one.

It will ask you for the administrator password. If you never set one just leave that password field blank and press enter.

At the prompt type this:

CHKDSK /P /R

It will go in and repair your bad sectors on the hard drive.

ALL windows computer systems have booting files and if anyone of those files get corrupted or deleted or tamperd with it could lead to possible failure in the booting up prosses.
reinserting the Windows XP cd into the cd rom should rectify this problem.

Sounds like a start up error. Boot in safe mode and then remove all non essential programs from the start up menu and then try to reboot regular. This should solve your problem.
If you can get into safe mode, in the start box go to run and type in MSCONFIG. Then go to the start up tab at top of box and remove the check marks from the boxes in that tab and try to reboot. If this doesn't work go to www.afterdawn.com and ask the same question, they are very helpful there. Good luck.
