Hi after time your air stone get full of dirt and rubbish either from fish poo or from food if the air stone get gloged the air will come out inother places faster with more presure,
When ever i clean my tank i take the air stone out and boil it in a pan this help clean the stone and kill bacteria. This make the bubble comeout even and smaller.
You may also want to try turning the presure down on your pump if you can

Hi, you may find that if you have an airpump that has high & low positions then the high position will give you the big bubbles & the low the smaller fine spray. Over time many cheaper airstones get clogged & they are nearly impossible to clean thoroughly & an old airstone even on high pressure will only give out a fine spray of bubbles but this is not good news for the pump as it will be working too hard. Wooden diffusers are good for very fine displays but don't last more than a few months before rotting & needing to be replaced-they are really intended for marine tanks.
Some of the best airstones are shown in the link below & although costing more than the regular pet store variety they emit a uniform bubble spray along their entire length & can be cleaned whereas the cheaper ones tend to fall apart in time.

Is this in a freshwater tank? There can be differences due to clogging, the airstone material (plastic, glass bead, wooden), and just age. The amount of flow to the airstone can make a differece too, and as air pumps age, they don't have as much pressure. You can get a valve that connects to the airline so you can increase or decrease pressure.
If this is in a saltwater tank, the same still apply, but the salinity also is a factor. The more salt there is (higher salinity or specific gravity), the smaller the bubbles will be.

when some thing is covering your airstone (such as gravel) bubbles are quite large and when airstone perfectly salient bubbles are smaller !
so you must put your airstone where is not any thing above it ! and behind of some thing (such as a rock) to arestone be invisible! if bubbles is not regular in length of airstone you kan balance airstone! (each side of airstone that be higher ,have more air bubbles & lower side have less bubble) after then u can adjust power if airepump

Do you have ornaments/gravel/rocks over it or covering it? If so the airstone is givving small bubbles off but they all build up under the deco/gravel etc and once it gets too strong it all comes up in one big bubbles. Thats probibly the problem.

Small bubbles are fine. If your worried check your pump, hose for blocks and kinks and stone but it's not a problem.
