The guy next door is the reason our society is going down the drain.

I do agree with JFK on that statement!

If most people think this is BS, then our country is in trouble beyond repair.

I have always interpreted this statement to extend beyond the concept of voluntary enlistment in the armed forces, to other aspects of "serving," such as practicing decency and respect to fellow Americans, being a good ambassador for my country when traveling to other countries, obeying the laws... being a good neighbor.

So, no, I think this is a valid request that I prefer to think we all follow, in one way or another.

No. This poster believes in give and take. As a US Veteran and tax paying citizen I expect this country to do some things for me in return such as:

protect the borders
inspect our food sources
keep our water supplies clean
enforce the law
and so on...

Kennedy gave a great speech which has to be taken in context with the times

let me phrase it this way ...

over in Africa and much of the Middle East, there is no one who would even understand John F. Kennedy's phrase. The average man there does not think of doing anything for his country at all, ever. The most he can think of is his tribe. And then he's perfectly willing to wait for his tribal chief to dole out a slice of success to him -- which slice the chief will have right after the tribe gets done seizing success from the next tribe over.

does this help?

Then, I guess John F Kennedy was BS.
This is from JFK's inauguration address.

PS Not many people ask of their country any more. They demand, then sue if they don't get it their way.

It is BS, for Republicans. Their motto is: "ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you"

It is just a bunch of sphincter twanging nonsense.

The government controls everything and as such should be accountable.

Personnal responsibility is such bollocks.

I agree. Without people giving themselves as volunteers, educators, policemen and women, firemen, health workers, etc., we wouldn't be in a good spot.

One can only hope that he doesn't represent the majority.
