No way for Adam Dunn. The Padres value a good eye over power, and Dunn has a very undisciplined approach at the plate.

Ichiro won't be available until at least the off-season, and then it will be a sweepstakes. Don't count on it, the Padres haven't participated in any Sweepstakes since getting Kevin Brown.

The Padres have made it clear they won't break up their major league pitching staff or their frontline players for any other player... Personally I feel that's a bit hard-headed if the right bat might become available. Maybe starting pitchers would be hands off, but anyone in the bullpen except for Hoffman should be considered available for a price.

The point is that the Padres have some very good pitchers entering the prime of their careers signed for relatively long term contracts, and whatever bat they acquire should be similar.

How many players are like that? Hardly anyone in the National League, but maybe some possibilities in the American League?

The one hitter I wonder if he could be made available would be Carl Crawford, possibly for a frontline major league releiver and a minor league prospect. The problem is that I doubt TB is seriously interested in trading Crawford, even for some really good compensation.

And BTW - I feel the old argument about players' statistics being affected by the park they play in is over-blown. Half of the season is played in someone else' ballpark, and teams like the Padres have a record on the road that's not that different than at home, and visting teams have out-homered the Padres in their own park. Players just need to know how to adjust to the environs of the day.

Well, the reason that San Diego was the best pitching, but an average offense is because they play in a pitcher's park. For instance, if Adam Dunn can hit 40 homers in Cincinnati, he may be able to hit 35 in San Diego. I think Adam Dunn would be a good fit. He brings a big left-handed bat to the lineup which they desperately need.

Any player the Yankee$ want. Mark Triexera (spelling?) from Rangers is probably in play, and Rangers are always desperate for pitching.

And how about giving some credit to Red Sox pitching last night? Dice-K has been erratic but has dominated other lineups at times, the set-up man and closer have probably been the best 1-2 combo in MLB this year, and middle innings relief has been consistently strong. No team can expect to score much on Boston when their starter is on. Their vulnerability is inconsistent starting pitching--with big swings from brilliant to second-rate (or to the DL in Beckett's case).

Dunn would be an interesting addition, but it would cost them most likely one of their best prospects, or a pitcher like Chris Young along with a second-tier prospect. Not cheap, but they have the pitching to survive.

I think that J. Dye from the White Sox. I was just reading that Kenny Williams the White Sox GM is willing to dump him or M.Buehrle, and Dye is from California.

Dunn would be most logical, Ichiro has expressed his displeasure of any city other than Seattle, so he won't be traded.
