The landlord didn't want to fix the broken phone jack in the house said it was my resp. so will this fall under the same thing? I've looked online and can't find any info out. I'm attempting to fix the problem myself but I may need an exterminator. I need to know who should pay me or him?

It's definitely the landlord's burden to keep the place bug-free and totally operational. You pay to live in a fully-functional residence, as it was most likely described in your rental agreement, so it's his or her responsibility to keep it in the condition you agreed on.

You need to look at your lease, it should state what repairs and maintenance your landlord is responsible for (usually anything over a certain $ amount). Be careful, you may still have to pay if the landlord can prove that the bug problem is your fault. Good luck.

It's definitely the landlords responsibility. He sounds more like a slumlord.

I had a landlord that was too lazy to do anything. But we had an agreement that if I was going to do any repairs I would deduct that from my rent and supply a receipt with my rent check showing the cost of the repair. It always worked out just fine.

If your landlord doesn't agree to something like that, report him. Or at the very least just move. I'm sure there are better apartments and landlords out there.

It's the landlord's responsibility to keep the apartment in "habitable condition." The phone jack doesn't fall under that; the bugs do.

The landlord is responsible for paying the exterminator.

It should be up to the landlord to look for
exterminator. But you should also look and
help with the bug problem. It would be nice
if you also help in the cost, because without
knowing if the bug's were already in the
apartment or when you moved in with the
boxes, the bug's could have hitched a ride
in your boxes.

Landlord.

If you keep your place clean, then it is the landlord's.

If there is trash and leftover pizza boxes from last week, then you would be responsible.

As a landlord, I would have it done, and charge you for it if I decided you caused the problem.

Unless you're a really filthy pig, it's the landlord's responsibility. (The phone jack is also his responsibility, whether he likes it or not.)

It's your landlords, contact the health department and they will help you with your bug problem.
