I bought my wife a pet parakeet for her b-day.. is this bird to small or should I get a different one.

Perhaps buying another parakeet of the opposite gender would be a good idea. That way the two of them could become love birds and entertain your wife and you even more.

After years of experience with a variety of sizes, I would be more inclined to go with a larger one. And sometimes having two is very nice so they can keep each other company and also provide more pleasure for you.
