Please, stop calling me Shirley.

That old expression, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" really holds true in the Middle East. They have the most insane, convoluted alliances. People who absolutely despise one another will work together against a common foe.

If the world was being attacked by an alien race, we would all band together to fight them. The Middle East seems to band together in ways it never would to confront Israel. You might conclude that Israel has helped these countries from warring against one another.

Israel might inadvertently have HELPED peace in the Middle East!

I think some people do believe this.

The problem with the logic is this: the Muslim fundamentalists would still be running riot, killing each other and sending suicide bombers to western democratic countries. All of this would still happen.

A lot of people no doubt think that things would be better without Israel because the 'Palestinian problem' would not exist. I would ask those people to consider these facts:

The 'Palestinian people' did not exist as a distinct entity until 1967 - some two decades AFTER Israel was created. Prior to this, they were known as, and referred to themselves as 'Arabs'. Even now, to consider the Palestinians as a people is a bit like stating that New Yorkers are a separate nationality from the rest of America!

The Palestinians, as we now call them, have been treated badly, primarily by their fellow Muslims. Not one Arab nation, wealthy and vast though they are, has agreed to integrate them into their society. Jordan kept them in horrendous refugee camps. And when Egypt had control of Gaza, she mined the borders, so the refugees could not escape.

Israel provides the Palestinians with free water, food, electricity and medical aid; she has also built new housing and opened schools. This is far more than any Muslim nation has done.

People should be glad that the world has a democracy - Israel - in the Middle East.

I think that might be questionable. Some in the left definitely have no use for Israel like Jiminie Carter but others do not want it to be defeated. I think the biggest thing to the left is they think the Middle East would be peaceful if we had no role in Israel's future or other countries.

I don't know about Israel never being there. Sounds like the Middle East would have a big hole in it to me. A lot of the Bible stories would be completely different too !

The Arabs hve been fighting each other to the death since the split into Shia and Shiite sects about 1300 years ago. Israel is just a blip on that horizon. If Israel was not there, they would go back to killing each other.

As far as what the "left" thinks, you have to talk to them but in my humble opinion, anyone who seriously believes that Israel's departure from the scene would lead to the breakout of peace. love , and good will to men needs " a check up from the neck up."

There are people on the left and the right who believe that, though lately, it appears that the "anti Israel" people are more on the left then the right. I wouldn't characterize the entire left like that.

And yes, those that do believe that, are serious. And don't call them Shirley.

Actually, the Middle East would be more peaceful if Israel was never there:

1. The terrorists could peacefully train their minions and plan their attack strategies;
2. Various Muslim sects could peacefully engage in civil wars, in fighting over control of their country's government;
3. Nuclear bombs could peacefully be manufactured and eventually delivered via air mail to non-Islamic countries.

Surely, your question cannot be serious...

It certainly would remove one variable from the equation.

Lest we forget that the RIGHT thinks the jews are gods chosen people. You know the stories from the book of fables.
How long did Moses live again?

Maybe Israel should honor all of the accords they have made over settlements. The jews are not innocent by a long shot.

No.
I don't and I'm a liberal.
Let me ask you, do Christians actually believe the establishment of the Israel state marks the second coming of Christ the beginning of Armageddon and the end of the world?
Yes they do.
Its right in revelations.

The Jews don't believe it though.
They don't believe Christ has come the first time yet.

The problem is Palistine not Israel , Palistine keeps sending bombs over and suicide bombing , yet the likes of Sheehan blame Israel,the thing is the left only sees what they want to see the left want to kiss and hold hands with the terrorist types look at Pelosi went and broke bread with Syria and kissed and embraced them goes to show you where she stands even when asked by the USA gov. not to go there Pelosi would embrace Syria and those type before she would embrace and aid the USA way.
