You may still be entitled to Maternity pay off the Job Centre depending on how much tax you'v paid over the last 60 weeks. Go to the job centre to talk about what your entitled to and the citizens advice will help you if you feel you'v been treated unfairly with redundancy. I know I got sacked from my job when i was 16weeks pregnant (id been there 2years) and then i was ill with the mumps so couldn't find a job for a few weeks and by the time i was well enough to work i had developed a baby bump and no one was willing to take me on then. but luckily i was entitled to Maternity Pay £112.00 a week coz i had paid enough tax in the last 60weeks. It may not be the same for you as the Job centre check your wadge slips and bank statments but you will get something of the govermant. Hope this helps xx

Im sorry to hear this. Help is at hand though!! If you are unable to find work with another employer, you can get help from Income Support. Ask at your local jobcentre. Now, the best option is obviously to get another job for over 16 hours a week to continue getting working tax credit but as you will not have worked long enough for maternity pay you can still claim Maternity allowance through your local jobcentre. I suggest you go there to get confirmation of al your options but dont panic, there is lots of help to be had. You CAN afford this child. A baby is only expesive if you let it be. Good luck for the future. All the best. xx

I found myself in that same position, except I was seven months pregnant. At sixteen weeks you should be able to get another job. Obviously you should be honest with your prospective employer at his point about your pregnancy. Hopefully you can find someone understanding to hire you. Our American society does not do its best to care for pregnant mothers, unfortunately. In the meantime there is no shame in accepting welfare and food stamps until you can get a job: that is why we have that program. It is actually designed for people in your situation. It's designed as a temporary solution for those who want to work, so don't feel bad! Your own tax dollars have gone into that program and now you can take care of yourself! Also, your last employer should have paid into unemployment for you so you should be able to draw from that for a while. I hope this helps. Hang in there.

Well that was a no frills job then. Go to your job centre and they will help you. You can still get maternity help and you can also claim income support. You also get a grant for the baby when it is born - i think its about £500- it helps to by thngs you need. You will then get child benefit as well- please don't worry- the government won't let you starve.

If you are in the union USDAW, which covers shopworkers, then contact your regional office and ask them to arrange for your Area Organiser to come and have a chat with you.

He will advise you to what you can do regarding your redundancy.

Thats really unfortunate. Dont fret, you may not think you can afford it, but I always think if you can afford one child you can a second. Things will work out, I'm sure. Also I'm sure you could get some temporary store work elsewhere. Good luck.

You may have to go to your Family, or the appropriate State public assitance Agency for help. Honestly state your problems and I think a professional can help.
