I've used both in the home and my office, however, I've found that HP generally delivers better customer support along with ease of use. The fact that it's such a well established brand in the home printing arena makes it a perfect choice for you to work with. That and the availability of inks. I've had less driver related issues with HP products as well. Lexmark has repeatedly given me heart attacks when I'm trying to meet a deadline and suddenly suffers from a driver related issue.

I have an HP and it turns out beautiful pictures and is fairly straightforward to use. It uses a black ink cartridge and a 3-ink cartridge. I haven't priced any ink for the others, but price makes me go slow on my print jobs. The customer service is about like any these days for printers or anything else. No major complaints.
I have never owned any of the other brands. I hope this is some help.

I have had three HPs and two Cannons... I like the HPs much more than the Cannons.

My Cannons have had problems with streaks of ink on the paper. Resulting in having to clean the rollers... I've never had that problem with any of my HP's. Also the advantage of the HP is everytime you change the ink cartridge you get new print heads...

My daughter had a Lexmark that came with her computer. It stopped printing with in two years. I think probably a clogged print head.

One time I was in a computer store and overheard someone say that they asked their friend what computer he had. The friend said Lexmark, and the computer store person said, "Sorry about your luck."

Most inkjet printers with individual cartridges will have their "print head" in the ink cartridges themselves. When you buy a generic or a "refillable" cartridge, in most cases, the printheads will not align as with the manufacturer cartridge. Also, the printheads tend to wear out quicker and the timing is not always good. This leads to streaking, smearing, and partial prints after a very short while, in some cases, from first use. I would not recommend using a generic cartridge with your printer. Using the manufacturer's cartridge is the best route to call and if you can find a place where you can send them to get refilled, that would be your best bet.

Definitely it's HP. HP is the grandmaster of inkjet technology.
HP inkjet printers are the best becos the printer head is mounted on the ink cartridge itself. Usage depleted, the printer head ink cartridge is thrown away and the HP printer is alway easy to replace by new ink cartridges with print head especially when the warranty run out. Quality print remains and best of all, like me has not much money, prefers to refill the empty original cartridge with 3rd party ink till the print head is condemned and replaced by the brand new original print head ink cartridge.

I agree with the HP printers. With the occasional exception of a quirky printer, I perform minimal "actual repair work" on HP printers. Most of my time with them is with routine maintenance or the standard jams that users get themselves into such as configuration issues or swapping out toner cartridges.

If you want bang for your buck, go with HP. I'm pretty impressed even with the lower-end ones on the market today (for laser printers...inkjets are reasonably alright, too)!

I only buy HP printers. They run like tanks and I have never had to take one to the shop for repair or contact customer service.

I have been using HP since 1985 (HP II, HP 4MP and HP VI) and till date, I have never faced any problems with any one of them.. in fact I only had to discard them when the toner cartridges were no more manufactured by the manufacturers
