i have a 2005 Dodge Durango with GPS and a DVD player in the back. and i've tried putting the DVD data disc into the DVD player in the rear and i've also tried putting it into the CD player up front and it says Disc Read Error. is there anyway i can get that to work ??

dvd's only work in a dvd player but if you burn a music disk u need to burn it as an audio cd. of course a music cd player will not play it if you recorded it as a data disk. a data disk is for files or games, pictures etc. dvd-r is what you want. getting a dvd-rw will erase and re record but either if it is your preference. after you burn the cd using the music audio and it still doesnt work some players will not play burned disks.

Go to the website of the DVD manufacturer to see if there is a firmware update that will allow you to play data disc on the DVD player

No. Some DVD players will play CD's but no CD players should play DVD's because of the completely different format.
