I have around 7 baby goldfish (fry or whatever you call them...). They are around 1-2 months old. They have been swimming eating fine but in the last couple of days I have had problems. Three are struggling to swim and you can see air bubbles (they are still slightly transparent)... What do I do? I have this with my normal goldfish, I give them some peas and everything is ok..... Any tips?

Cheers,
G

well ive had about 3 goldfish and every time i got one my damn cat ate it.. lol but i think they are sick.. try putting them in plastic bags and totally clean and sanitize the tank.. i mean COMPLETELY.. and scrub and rinse well...then give them clean water and DO NOT put ur hand in the tank.. i had a fish once named ava and my friend put her hand in the tank and something on peoples skin isnt good for fish at all ((she killed ava)) .. so use a net to get them out.. you have some germ on you, you could kill ur fish.. so clean ur tank and get fresh water.. and DONT stick ur hand in the tank

also, if that doesnt help call your vet and being them in.. if im unclear let me know.. im sorry and i hope they are fine

Are you doing regular water changes? Fry will be even more sensitive to poor water quality, so you may need to increase the changes as the fish grow. It sounds like the bubbles you're seeing are inside the fry - this wouls still be equivalent to swim bladder disease in adults, only because of their size, you're seeing the actual swim bladder with air building up. This is usually caused by poor water quality, improper feeding (hope you're giving them more than just peas, but if the problem goes away when you feed these, it appears t's related to constipation - try soaking the dry food before you feed it to them), or internal infection.

I'd start with an extra water change (or test your water if you're able to do this), followed by soaking dry food before giving it to the fish and offering them a good variety for eating. Young goldfish need good protein content in their foods - may try offering them some frozen bloodworms cut to make them a better size if the fish can't eat a whole one.

If the problem is constant, they may have an internal infection and need medication (broad spectrum antibiotic) to clear this.
