I know a 13 year old girl was on a roller coaster (not a normal one...i think it was the kind that repeadatly goes straight up and down) a wire snapped and her feet got cut off! I love roller coasters but just thinking this would happen makes me not want to go on one again, at least not that kind. At my local six flags there are two like that and my friend really wants to go on them when we go and I don't know because of that. The'yre V2 and Deja Vu what would you tell me about this. And yes I'll still go on the normal roller coasters.

I think you are more likely to get hit by lightning than to be injured on a rollercoaster. I was reading that a death statistic for a rollercoaster was off because someone was killed by walking UNDER a rollercoaster while it was going (they weren't supposed to be in that fenced off area) and the got killed by a kick to the head. It was a coaster where your feet dangle. Obviously, you can be seriously injured in a car wreck, but you still ride in cars, right? Read some statistics on coaster injuries. Go and have fun.

Roller coasters and drop towers are two COMPLETELY different rides. She wasn't on a coaster, she was on a drop tower. Those are the rides that lift you up, then drop you straight down.
What happened to her was a tragic and unfortunate accident. I don't know if it could've been prevented. The cable broke as they were going up the tower, then on their way down, the cable swung around and wrapped itself around her ankles, thus cutting off her feet. They just did a ride inspection back in April and it passed. Maybe they should step up and conduct more inspections? Or maybe it was just a freak accident that would've happened regardless of an inspection. Either way, I feel sorry for her and her family. I hope the best happens out of this, and that the park compensates them very well. The last I heard, she was in surgery trying to reattach her feet.

I wouldn't let something like this freak you out too much. Yes, it's nerve racking, however, accidents happen all the time at carnivals and amusement parks, some with no injuries, some with minor injuries, and some that result in death. Whatever happens though, I trust amusement parks to do their best to keep their guests safe on the rides.

Don't let this accident ruin your love of coasters or other amusement park rides.

I have always been afraid of something happening to me while riding a rollar coaster, but I have never let it stop me. I mean, If you are religous than just know that God does everything for a reason and if that happends to you God must have a plan. Chances of that happing though are very slim. Just don't let the fear keep you from having fun and enjoying yourself... ya know? Some people have really good instincts and women have a womens intuition. If you feel like something might go wrong, don't get on. Other than that I think your fine! Just don't worry about it. Live life and have fun!
God Bless!

omg i heard about that and i recently (like a couple of days) went on superman(which is the same ride)... it freaked me out too... but you cant let that keep you from living your life... chances of that happening are very slim.... its more likely to get struck from lightening then to get hurt on an amusement park ride... as long as you follow the directions the ride attendants tell you, you will be perfectly fine.
