and you can explain how? Thanks.

Sam can do the work in 4 days.
So he does 1/4 work in 1 day.

Similarly,
Lisa does 1/6 work in 1 day
Tom does 1/2 work in 1 day.

Total 1 day work = 1/4 + 1/6 + 1/2 = 11/12
So they'll take 12/11 = 1.09 days to complete the work.

Hope this helps.

Won't give you the answer (that would be cheating), but here's how to start.

Determine what FRACTION of a job Sam can do in ONE day. Call that fraction S.

Likewise, determine what fraction of a job Lisa can do in one day, and call that L.

Do likewise for Tom, and call that fraction T.

That means the fraction of a job that all of them can finish in ONE day, if they all work together, is S+L+T.

From that, you should be able to figure out how many days it'll take them to finish the full job.

it's 2 > x days because if Tom can do it in 2 days why should it take longer if he has more help. If you aren't aloud to answer the question that way i'd say 1 day.

d = no. of days work
1/4d + 1/6d + 1/2d = 1
11/12d = 1
d = 1 / 11/12
d = 1 x 12/11
d = 1 1/11 days or 1 day, 2 hr, 10 min, 54 6/11 sec
