Let's see - baseball has a few thousand (including the minors). Pro football is less than 2,000. Pro basketball, including the minor leagues, is less than a thousand. Hockey has a couple of thousand with all of the minor leagues. Throw in golf (several hundred), tennis (few hundred), lacrosse, soccer, etc., and I would guess the number is somewhat above 10,000. But not too far above.
It depends on definitions, of course. Are skiers professional? Bobsledders? Well, they get subsidies, but not paid directly in some cases. So they fall into odd categories.
