Because, I think, first, we were the liberating army that marched into Germany and the camps... We were the loudest voice during the "Shall Isreal become a Soverign State" hoo-ha; because MANY of our citizens have ties to and/or are jews. Because we are THE champions of the underdog; because it is the only decent thing we could choose to be; because we are FOUNDED on religious freedom; because it it right and just and sane that Israel live. When Israel was declared a "STATE" she immediately announced that ALL were welcome to come; ALL were welcome to stay; she just requested that those of differing faiths not attack the jews. SIX!! (six!) Arab States immediately DECLARED WAR!! SOMEone has got to draw the line in the sand. I am glad and proud that it is us. Israel is the cradle for EVERY religion; no one can be allowed to declare their intention of "wiping from the face of the earth" the jews (or ANYone else!) and have it go unchallenged. NO one can be allowed to to carry out that threat. NO ONE. (Whew! I get a little excited about this...-it is an issue VERY close to my heart and mind.) oh. - No. I am not a jew. Marvin: you are wrong. OR, you are a liar. Which?

Religious influence mainly, it is really quite sickening, Israel is a horrid example of how a country should act.
A large percentage of the world's black drug market comes out of Israel with the government largely in the scenes. While of course the Israelis have been persecuted themselves extensively, their treatment of captive Palestinian women and children on many occasions has been inhumane at best.
Not that I support any other Middle Eastern country or faction besides maybe Egypt. Though there are certainly worse countries operating in the Middle East, Israel is not far behind the 'Axis of Evil.'

The roots of Christianity are there and rabid Christians vote.
A substantial percentage of the population is Jewish from having been driven out of Europe by Hitler and they donate and vote.
The adventure of setting up Isreal appeals to the wild west frontier mythology of the US.
The fact that they have stood up to and beaten larger countries who have declared they want to wipe Israel out attracts anyone who cheers for the underdog, especially the successful one (see movie "Shane")
We are relatively low on the prejudice scale.
