I am leaving for cheerleader camp in two weeks. I was selected for the varsity cheerleaders right at the end of school. I like the other juniors on the team am being hazed. It is tradition and I am cool with it but the senior "Master" I have is mean. The last day of school she made me give her a foot massage. Some of the other seniors saw me give her one and they began joking about how that would be great each day after camp practice.

I want to fit in and will do this, but this seems a bit mean. I am not sure I want to massage someone's feet after practice. Has this happened to anyone else?

I've played soccer from the time I was little until now on my college team. Every time you get to a new level, it does seem like there's some hazing. While hazing is generally considered wrong, and is even illegal (!) in some states, a lot of it is harmless. Some of it is dangerous.

I would give you a couple kinds of advice. First of all, do NOT feel the need to do anything dangerous. When I was a freshman in college, the guys on the team were having rookies drink until they threw up. I refused to do this because it was stupid and dangerous. They also had us get the equipment before practice and clean up after practice, and at one point they had us do the senior's laundry. That's the kind of stuff you should go along with, and take in good fun. It's a way of paying your dues, and it's not a big deal.

My second piece of advice would be to talk to another girl to figure out what is common. If you have any really good friends on the team who are older and have been through this in the past couple of years, just ask them what kinds of things they've had to do. You want to get an idea of whether the current "master" is just a jerk, or if she's actually asking you to do things nobody else has ever had to do. You want to go along, but you don't want to be taken advantage of, know what I mean?

Basically, my advice is to go along with it without complaining as long as you aren't being totally taken advantage of. If it's annoying, that's fine. If it's dangerous or totally demeaning, then that's what I would be careful of.

Good luck!

As a coach I would never allow hazing. And I am sure the camp would not either.

um excuse me? dont take this cra*p from somebody. who cares if she is the junior "master'. rubbing feet is meant for massagers or pedicure people. jeez who does she think she is? getting off doing something so bitc*hy like that. just ignore her at cheer camp! i mean you go there to bond, and if she doesnt want to bond, give her the finger and just worry about other things like, trying not to get sunburned while doing stunts and tumbling! just have fun and dont let anyone bother you! and no, this has never happened to me. i have never been forced to give somebody a foot massage. i mean, how lame can she get!

just say who cares?
HAVE FUN @ your cheer camp!
are you going to a USA cheer camp? because that is where i am going!

what u should do is this, if it doesn't bother much then do it however u should have a bit of fun your self, after each massage, sit on their legs and tickle the heck out of then they won't be so quick to ask u for foot massage

I felt sorry that I had no shoes until I met a man with no feet.
