You are not going to get a definitive answer here, so just go to your dealers and take a test ride on each.
They are both well liked bikes with some subtle differences. The SV is a little cramped for taller riders and it has a v twin engine. If you have never ridden a v twin then try it as some people don't like it. I personally love them and own Ducati's. There is no doubt however that the SV is a great bike and the twin might suit you perefctly.
The Hornet has the excellent 4 cylinder Honda unit which is a detuned version of that found in the CBR600. These are great engines and a Hornet is more than enough for most people on the road.
You will not be disappointed with either but definitely go check them out for yourself. No one else can really answer the question for you.

in 05 the hornet was the biggest seller in europe, but it is an all rounder where as the sv is a sports bike although its a v twin im weighing between the flat 4 of a de tuned cbr 600 stuck in an all rounder or a v twin sportster, hmm i'll go for the sv 650 as the better bike. i loves me sports bike i hate all rounders even though the cbf 600 has the better engine.

The SV650 was built as a complete package and the engine and frame were designed together. The Hornet is a parts bin special of cbr600 engine and mix and match forks and wheels etc.
The SV is a more together bike and in my opinion better handling too, its also cheaper and has a very loyal customer base with loads of upgrades including engine performance kits, big bores etc.

Go for the sv - the Hornet is a bit 'sit up and beg'!

In the end, it's your personal preference - both bikes are fairly evenly matched as far as performance, reliability, servicing, spares backup and depreciation are concerned.
If you like the wonderful growl of a V-twin, get the Suzuki. If you like the glorious howl of an in-line four, get the Honda...

None of the above, get a 1200 Bandit they do it all so much better and with less effort.
