whats going on, last time i posted asking of the white dots, people told me that it wasnt ich and it was those breeding spots or something, now it seems that it expanded to the front part of the fins of one fish and all this time, one or a few fish seemed to have none of those spots, but there are white spots on some of those goldfishes.

need help, confused

See these photos for what the breeding tubercles should look like: http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Bug,%20S111.jpg , http://www.koivet.com/images/breedingtubercles.jpg

As long as the fish has these only on the front edge of the fins, and along the gill plates (although they may extend a little of the way onto the had), that's most likely what they are -the breeding tubercles. Only the males get these, and they'll go away on the males once they're out of spawning condition.

If the spots are all over the body, as in this photo: http://www.koivet.com/images/gfich.gif , that's ich. They look very similar, so they key here is placement.

If this is ich, follow the treatment advice suggested in this link: http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/docs/health/ich.shtml

Some breeds of goldfish will have the tubers expanded to the front of the fins. (Not all) An even pattern on the gill plate and you are sure it is a male, are breeding tubers. If the spots are fuzzy and white Looks bright white like salt and increasing in number it could be ich. Do you know if your fish is a male or female?

Hi Ben, I believe i was one of those who told you that your fish had breeding tubercles rather than Ick. I was basing my reply on the information in your original question, sorry for any confusion but it still sounds like breeding tubercles to me! There are three places they occur: their gill plates, the semi-circular plate under their eyes & along the leading edge of their front fins. Females sometimes also get these breeding tubercles or stars but it is not common & they will only get a few. If they are appearing anywhere else on their bodies or fins & the fish look as if they have been sprinkled with salt then it is probably Ick & should be treated as such.

It's probly ich. My fish had ich b4. It's a bunch of white spots, right? What you're supposed to do is put ur fish in salt water in a bowl to keep him away from the other fish. Keep him there 4 a few days. But make sure he doesn't jump out!

it one of four things
1. ich
2.velvet
3.louse
4.your fish is turning albino like mine.

okey here's the difference with disease velvet will me more of a fine type of dots like glitter also this disease is very common in goldfish (treat with a parasite medicine or salt bath). ich you fish will be rubbing against the decor or gravel in your tank(treat the same as velvet but you'll need to sanitize everything in your tank). Louse has disk shaped things on the skin(remove all parasites with tweezers and add parasite med then sanitize tank).

It is Ick. Treat them with ick away and melafix. Keeping the aquarium temperature warmer and adding stress coat may prevent outbreaks of ick in the future.

Sounds to me like it is Ich, and you can buy a treatment to put into their water from walmart, or a pet shop.
