There's an article on http://www.sabrefans.com/history written a couple of years ago that has the top 25 games ever for the franchise. They aren't ranked from 1 to 25, but merely listed by date.

Here are the final few from the article:

22. April 29, 1997 - Buffalo 3, Ottawa 2. You want drama? This game was loaded with it. It was the first Game Seven ever played in Buffalo. The Sabres had never won a Game Seven. The coach and general manager weren't getting along. The coach and superstar weren't getting along. The superstar had attacked a sports writer earlier in the series. And just to add to the fun, the game went into overtime.

That when Derek Plante came down right wing and ripped a shot on goal. Ron Tugnutt of the Senators could only get a piece of it, and it dribbled into the net for the series-winner. Has it ever been louder in the arena?

23. May 31, 1999 - Buffalo 4, Toronto 2 The Sabres earned their second trip to the finals with a Game Five win. Just to make it a little more dramatic, they did it in Toronto - their arch-rival from Day One, in the first-ever playoff series between the teams. Erik Rasmussen had the game-winning goal, while Dixon Ward ended the suspense by putting the puck into an empty net.

After the game, Michael Peca wouldn't even touch the conference championship trophy at the center-ice ceremony. He only wanted the Stanley Cup.

24. June 19, 1999 - Dallas 2, Buffalo 1. No goal. Those were mighty sad words in Buffalo for the months, even years, after the date. You probably know all about how Brett Hull scored more than 54 minutes into overtime to give the Stars a 4-2 series win and the Cup.

The problem was that Hull's foot seemed to be in the crease. And a reading of the rulebook seemed to indicate that the goal shouldn't have counted. The Sabres had no guarantee that they would have won the game or the series had the goal been disallowed, of course, but they would have liked to have had the chance.

25. May 10, 2001 - Pittsburgh 3, Buffalo 2. The Sabres' second Game Seven at home didn't turn out so well. After taking an early lead, Buffalo slowly let control of the game slip to the Penguins. By overtime, the result seemed inevitable. Darius Kasparaitis jumped in from his defenseman's spot as a trailer and beat Hasek with a slap shot to end the series.

It turned out to be the end of an era. Hasek and Doug Gilmour skated off the ice that night and never wore a Sabres' uniform after that.
