2- 6 = -4 not 4 because you are taking more from the lesser which results in a negative number, which is less than 0
the number line goes like this:
........-6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.....
start from the number 2, and count 6 to the left, and you get negative four ( -4) as the answer.

No, the 6 takes the 2 down to 0, with 4 left over, in which case the number then enters into the negative spectrum.

Sorta, except for the fact -6 is bigger than 2 on the number line there for making you only take away 2 from a negative six wich would equal -4 because you loose 2 numbers from the negative 6 which would leave you with 4 negative numbers. Hence the -4. Example below:

+ + minus - - - - - - if you take away two of the negative six's->

- - - - - - take away 2 you have - - - - and that's your answer. Hope that helps!

but 2-6 will equal a VALUE of 4, in this case it would just be negative
