Ok i've been meaning to ask this question for quite awhile and i've been wondering about it too. Anyway, it seems to be that generally girls tend to appreciate the new and young rock bands that are here today (like MCR, fall outboy, panic!) and i've noticed ALOT of guys i've come across tend to say that some of these bands are "gay" or "lame" and that they "prefer the older music". And alot of girls adore these bands. I'm a girl and personally, i dont really like these new mainstream bands (no offense), but i like the older stuff too...

So i'm asking you people have you noticed the difference, is it a gender thing? What do you think about bands like Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance or any of the guys that are sky rocketing into the mainstream scene?Which bands do you prefer?

LOL...umm sorry about all those questions, too many right?. Answer whatever or however you can and give your reasons too..Thanks!

Well I have noticed alot of girls that like those bands just because of the band member's looks its really ridiculous, it shows they are not true fans for the music themselves and whats worse is when they say that a band like mcr is the best band in the world when clearly it is not...and I stick to metal because its simply the best and who cares if the band's members aren't good looking really what matters most is if they have talent and dedictation which is what makes a band truly successful!

I have noticed it too, and I sort of think it is a gender thing, sort of not. I know plenty of guys who like those bands, but I'm a girl and I like them too. I also listen to hard rock and some indie, but I don't listen to old stuff. I think they are great bands that will influence many bands to come in the future. They will go down in history, just like some classic bands have. Just because they didn't form in in the 60's or 70's (some of the guys weren't even alive yet) doesn't mean that they automatically suck, it just means that they're going to sound different than certain bands. I think My Chemical Romance is the best out of those bands because the band was formed for a special reason (after Gerard saw how devastating the 9/11 Attacks were and wanted to do something with his life). Their lyrics are very meaningful and the guys have good strong beliefs. They try to sway violence and suicide away from teens by sending positive messages. They also don't care about how much money they make. They're not in the media everyday. I think they are the perfect example of a band that will do extremely well in the future.

I do agree with you on some points. Rock's current stuff isn't that good and his jokes are a bit corny now and Cena can be funny and doesn't say the same thing every weak but The Rock in his prime was the best and Cena can't even come close to it. I do respect Cena especially after this weeks Raw because he said after Wrestlemania he will be here and Rock probably won't. Even though I'm still rooting for The Rock, Cena does make some good points and I do respect him. I never disrespected Cena. I never hated him as a person I only hated his lame gimmick but that's not his fault. I still think Rock will kick his candy a*s at Wrestlemania haha

Yeah I've noticed the gender thing too, not sure why it's that way though...I personally like both.

Generally, I think the guys tend to dis newer bands today just because they are mainstream more than girls do. I don't know if it has to do with not wanting to "betray the classics" or they just don't want to give them a chance or what. That's not always the case though - some of my guy friends like new stuff today more than classic rock, and my two best friends who are girls are both 70s and 80s freaks. lol

My Chemical Romance is my all-time favorite band, but I love a lot of classic rock too - Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, Blue Oyster Cult, Queen, Jethro Tull, and others.

I think quite a few of the newer bands today do sound a lot a like, but there are ones that have their own unique styles. Time period or genres or popularity or anything like that doesn't really make a difference to me - if I like it I listen to it.

I think it has to do with men and brand loyality. I mean is a guy can go on drinking the same beer for 45 years, not even necceasrliy liking it so much as it's because his dad did or his buddies got him into it.Gene Simmons once said bands cannot build fan bases on girls alone,or they will just as frickle from the scene. or it's being women tend to be more social in nature, and therefore more conforming,so when someone comes along seemingly better and cooler than the older guy,They so go for that because it's just the "thing to be into right at the moment"!

I don't think it is a gender thing...my younger sister listens to ACDC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Led Zeppelin, etc and she's only 12. I listen to this music every now and then, but I also throw a little of the newer stuff in the mix. My boyfriend listens to more of the newer stuff. It just depends on the person, I guess.

I enjoy some of the newer bands like Panic!, Paramore, and FOB.

Let's leave it to say that ALL modern "rock" (and bands who call themselves rock but are really crap, like FOB, P!ATD, MCR, All-American Rejects [who aren't even American], and any other "bands" that girls like, according to you) is nothing more than sell-out music that all sounds the same. It seems that now, you mention cutting your wrists, you sell things.

This is why I now listen to Christian rock/metal ONLY. Because they offer messages of hope, love, salvation, grace, and all that and DON'T mention cutting wrists.

Many Christian groups have joined the TWLOHA (To Write Love On Her Arms) ministry, which is about outreach to those who have slit their wrists or think that they're nothing. I support this ministry and I wish to join it too.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention the biggest sell-outs of all: Green Day (known by many wise folks as Green Gay). There is hope for you.

Well there is no diff. cuz i like older bands too... Seether is kinda old (last song in 2005) and they RULE. Linkin Park is OK but they aren't my type of music. I'm not saying they're bad, they're actually quite good, but just not my type of music. O and I am neutral with MCR,Fall Out Boy, etc.

i'm the same as swimswim. what are those bands considered, anyway? three days grace isn't old, but not really new either. anyway, i don't think it's a gender thing, it's just that some people can never get themselves to like anything new, and others only like new things. doesn't matter if you're a girl or boy.
