You need to do what's best for the fish - once you purchased them, they became your responsibility.

You need to find the time to provide adequate care - this means feeding twice a day and 25% weekly water changes if they're in a tank. At most, that should only take an hour each week.

If you don't feel you can continue to provide proper care, find them another home. You might be able to donate them to a school, day care, senior citizen's home, library, etc. You might be able to trade them in at a pet store for store credit (although they might not want the tank and equipment). Whatever you do, don't release the fish into the wild - this doesn't give them a "better life" and is often their death sentence (not to mention being illegal in most areas).

it is a fairly small tank. but the dimensions are more important than the capacity. Take the length and width of the tank and calculate the surface area. Then divide that by 20 and thats how many inches of fish you can have in the tank assuming its cold water, divide by 12 if you are going tropical. My best suggestion would be either get a siamese fighting fish or if the tank is able to accept the capacity some white cloud mountain minnows (they are a good starter fish). Cleaning out is a tough job. Firstly I recommend buying a tank spyphone, that will not only take out the water, but also the poo and other nasty things on the gravel that you use. Remove 50% of the water if its a colder water tank or 25% if its a hot water tank. Clean the filter sponge and carbon at the same time. Remove all debris from plants and then replace the water, trying to match the new waters temperature as closely to the old as close as possible other wise you could kill your fish with high levels of sudden stress. Remember to treat all your water with anti chlorine, and add in anti stress as well. Guppies do grow, but i wouldnt recommend them as a starter unless you got an all male group as 1 male and 1 female can produce up to 30 young a month and where would you put them all?

Once you figure out a schedule of what to do to take care of the aquarium and when to do it, it's a cinch to keep it all regulated. You can buy an automatic feeder that will dispense a specified amount of food into the aquarium at specified times. Just be sure you rinse the filter once a week, which is not hard. Just run it under the tap water and put it back in. If you put in a good bacterial supplement at the same time, then you'd also keep the chances of having to clean the tank much lower (with a dog, that would be a fun little trick to pull off, I'm sure).

Don't give up on your fish, especially if they were there first. Why do you even feel like you should get rid of them. You should be able to have your dog and your fish. Fish don't really require that much anyway. Please don't get rid of them, they don't deserve it.

Fish are not that exciting. Some are pretty. Dogs keep you healthy and fit! If I had that problem I would get rid if the fish!

i think if you budget your time you will still find plenty of time for your fish. feeding once a day and cleaning for 30 minutes once a week is usually all the time your fish require.

ITS NOT THAT HARD,WHEN YOUR DOG(S) ARE OUTSIDE,FEED YOUR FISH, CLEAN THE BOWL,GIVE IT ATTENTION, WHATEVER IT NEEDS,OR WHENEVER YOUR MAD AT YOUR DOG(S) JUST GO TO YOUR FISH. THERE IS NOTHING A FISH CAN DO TO GET U MAD. EXCEPT GETTING THE BOWL DIRTY. IF YOUR STILL LIVING W/ UR FAMILY GIVE YOUR FISH TO UR LITTLE BRO OR SIS. THEY LL TAKE CARE OF IT HOPEFULLY. ALSO, YOU CAN GIVE IT AWAY BUT THAT IS MY LAST RESORT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR CLOSE TO YOUR FISH.
