the suggested option was to move the virus's and trojans to the "chest", should the trojans be deleted, and will that be enough to secure my computer?

What Avast calls the "Chest" is actually quarantine.

A file in quarantine is totally safe. It can do no harm.

Malware removal is somewhat of an inexact science. Mistakes can happen. False-positive detections happen more often then the anti-malware industry cares to admit.

Needed system files can be mistakenly flagged as a virus or other malware. Quarantining allows a way to undo any incorrect file deletions, easily.

Personally, I like to quarantine everything for a month or so, then if all is OK, I delete.

I would follow Avast's recommendation. If you find that it reappears outside of the chest, then you have a real problem. Most likely it will not do so. Avast makes a pretty good anti-virus program. The reason you do not delete the 'trojan' is in case it is a false positive. Like all anti virus programs, they can give you such. Later, if it is not used by anything, you will get to an option to delete your chest times.

Your next step after you isolat the Trojan is to delete it. If you do not have the software to delete it then download some.
