People are ignorant about the industry. The work itself is hard physically. I've been doing it a long time and have huge issues with my back now. One of the hardest parts that people don't think about is dealing with the customers. Most people are nice, but as you know, if someone comes in to eat in a bad mood, not only are they difficult to deal with, but it brings you down as well. How many times have you had a customer be a complete jerk to you for no reason? Or not appreciate when you bend over backwards to make sure they get exactly what they want even though it's not on the menu? The worst part for me are the people who come in to eat and look down on you for being "just a waitress", as though you're too stupid to do anything else. Few people can do this job well, and people need to remember that.

No, its definately not an easy job. Ive been at this same restaurant for 20 years ( 2 more to go ) LOL. Working wih the public can sometimes be brutal. We each have an 8 table section. Some people think they are the only ones in the restaurant. They think we are their slaves. Food servers are so under rated, and some people sometimes tret us like dirt. We just have to keep smiling as we swear under our breath. If people think its so easy, let them try it!!!!!!

I don't know. I tried working at Taco Bell when I was 16 and quit after one day. They didn't teach me anything, threw me on the line, and expected me to know all the ingredients of all their damn tacos. I feel really bad for the people that ordered stuff that night!
I have been a server at a family style restaurant for a year and a half now, and it is definitely not easy! But I love it. There's ALWAYS something to do, but at least there are more co-workers to talk to ... but for every super nice customer, you get about five grouchy ones it seems!

Thank you! lol. I have been in restaurant management for almost 5 years now and some days I think I'm about to have a melt down! I love it but it is very hard work and very under appreciated work. Whenever I go out to eat I say please and thank you so many times to my waitress or waitor and leave a tip because I know it is hard sometimes to have that happy face on all day!

Well whoever said working in fast food is easy, is wrong!!! Fast food is really hard to work in. maybe they are saying that becuase they think it is easy but never have done it. Or they coud be working in a restauarnt that has no customers and is always emtpty.

I would say they have no experience working in one. Certainly there may be a lot harder jobs out there, but those jobs get better pay and get more respect from others. It's not easy for sure, and made worse by dealing with the public, many of whom do not have any respect for those who work there.

its not easy, the last couple of jobs i had were in food service, you have to do a lot of stuff and people are very rude to because they expect you to always get everything right and dont understand that it is hard to keep every thing straight when you get busy.

working in a restaurant IS hard. You have to have worked in it to know. I know some old servers that claim it's easy money, and in a way it is- but it can also be seriously stressful.

I never do and frankly any person who works there and doesn't free load and slack off have my respect because I know I couldn't work in fast food.
