hearing the word "Hitler" or "nazi" within seconds? Isn't this kind of ... bigoted? There's a lot more to German history than that, you know; not to mention, most German people alive today weren't even born yet during that era...

(I'm not German, by the way, I just noticed this lately.)

I agree with you, the war ended over 50 years ago. Germany are no longer the enemy, they are our allies. Germans don't have to be reminded every 5 minutes what some of their countrymen/women did during the war. They are already taught this at school.

Is that true? It's not my impression. I'm German and when I travelled to England, France, Russia, the Netherlands, Czechia, and other European countries I did not even hear it once that someone called me Nazi or said anything of that type when they knew I'm German. When here on Y!A someone asks what people think about Germans or Germany the majority answers something like "I've been there once, it was nice" or some harmless stereotypes like "they drink a lot of beer". And that Germans who were not even born then or were children then can't be blamed is something I have heard several times from Jews. So I really can't say that Germans are treated unfairly.

But honestly if you ask me about German history I will also say Nazis as the very first. They caused so much death and destruction which still has an impact on us today that it simply is important. Sure that were only 12 years, but that so-called "millenarian Reich" caused enough damage for 1000 years. So it doesn't offend me that people speak about it, it would rather worry me if they stopped to do so, because in my opinion that shows indifference to the fate of the victims and is like "Ah, tens of millions of people dead, so what, it's not that important", and that is in my opinion quite dangerous.

I'm half German and my Grandparents came here in the 1850 period to avoid serving in the German Army because of their Religious Beliefs. Am certain I still have relatives in Germany. but there are plenty of good things about German History. the people are wonderful the country is gorgeous and the food, music, folk costumes, language are beautiful.
