Emotional or physical needs not met, constant conflict, attention, to give the other person a reason to leave. I think its all stems from selfishness in at least on of the people, however I believe most cheating in marriages is due to emotional or physical needs not being met which means both people are being selfish.

I was married to a cheater.
It was his fourth marriage in just a few years.
I was a fool for marrying him.
So I say the reason for cheating most of the time is lust.
I know some people are married to someone that doesn't show the affection and love we all need and that's another reason. But that wasn't true in my case, he could have had all the love he wanted at home but he had rather get out and chase other women.
People make up all kinds of reasons, somr true, some not.

I never understood cheating. I've never done it. If I don't like someone, I dump them. Enough said. If someone's good enough for me to cheat on another person with, I'd just date them.
To me, the reason for cheating in ANY case is hormones and immaturity. You cheat when you can't deal with your current situation and are looking for something else. Maybe you're scared to hurt the person, but that's also immaturity. Anyone mature would know it'd hurt a lot less to tell them flatout what they're doing wrong. Cheating is never the answer and I have an extremely low opinion of anyone that does it. No matter how bad the spouse is that's causing it, it's not really their fault if you aren't telling them how much they're bothering you.
So, yeah, immaturity, hormones, or simply someone who doesn't use common sense, or that is generally a low-down person or bad character and is incliend to that sort of behavior.

There are no reasons to cheat, only excuses.
Usually a hedonistic drive for self-pleasure and immediate gratification.
